With the arrival of Volkswagen's next generation of radios (i.e. RNS510 for MY09), customers are now able to connect digital play back devices to their radios through a MEDIA-IN Box.
The MEDIA-IN Box can come as standard feature or factory optional with Premium 8, RNS315, and RNS510 radios (introduced with MY2009).
A MEDIA-IN retrofit kit 5N0 057 342 can be added to Generation 3 radios Premium 8, RNS315 and RNS510 radios. The retrofit kit includes the MEDIA-IN Box and the necessary harnesses for installation (installation time is estimated to be about 1.5 hours).
External audio sources such as MP3 Players, iPod and USB-Sticks can be connected to these radio systems via a variety of multimedia plugs. Audio output takes place via the car loudspeaker. Some devices give music information on the vehicle's radio display, and allow control through the vehicle's radio.
